New Moon in Aquarius March 7

The tide of change that March generally brings begins to swell on the 7th, with the new Moon at about 24° Aquarius, in the lunar mansion of Purva Bhadrapada, which I have translated as "Vision." The nature of this lunar mansion is active, fiery, supportive and visionary, and is considered to be one of the fierce lunar mansions. The influences of both Jupiter and Saturn are felt here, making a good combination for spiritual advancement which requires us to both expand in new directions while remaining detached from the results of our efforts. This new Moon supports action which requires fierce effort that supports and uplifts humanity. Like gardening! Aquarius and Purva Bhadrapada both carry the flavor of uniqueness, independence, and originality, so don't be afraid to express your unique and original ideas at this time. They could end up serving and advancing humanity in some way.

Venus Enters Aquarius March 8

Venus moves from Capricorn to Aquarius on March 8. Although both of these signs are ruled by Saturn, and are both friendly signs for Venus, Aquarius should make Venus feel a tad more free this time around because she is escaping the aspect of Mars, who is currently attempting to encourage everyone to sit in front of their computers, working, as he feels they should be. Venus is in for a bit of an adventure as she enters Aquarius because she moves directly into conjunction with Rahu (north node), and into opposition with Ketu (south node) and Saturn, who currently occupy the first part of Leo. Aquarius is a very humanitarian sign, decorated sparsely with idealism and futuristic vision. Venus' power to harmonize and relate could facilitate the delivery of weird or revolutionary concepts that intend to upset old, corrupt systems in order to inspire new systems that operate from a place of harmony, respect and equality. Venus transits through Aquarius for the duration of March, so take a walk on the wild side with her and relate to the far-out, weird concepts of humanitarianism and brotherly love.

Mercury Transits Aquarius March 10 - February 29

Another friend of Venus and Saturn will also troop with haste through the futuristic halls of Aquarius starting on March 10. Mercury adds his energy on to Venus,' amplifying her graceful song, chirping from the rooftops, and distributing the messages of the new age to come. With Mercury also free of Mars' direct aspect, we may be able to strike a more healthy balance between work and play in March. We may find ourselves thinking and talking about more philosophical matters rather than those of work and practicality, which was February's theme.

Saturn's opposition to Venus and Mercury in Aquarius combined with his near conjunction with Ketu in Leo gives us the energy to separate ourselves from the past or from outdated systems that no longer serve. To let go, even of broken things, is painful when they are familiar. Saturn stands by silently, encouraging us to do the right thing, knowing that releasing the past and facing toward the future can be painful and frightening, but ultimately a rewarding step on the journey.

Sun Enters Pisces March 14

Our Sun plunges headlong into the constellation of Pisces for his one-month long traverse through Jupiter's cosmic sea. The Sun is completely unaspected by any other planet for the remainder of March. We may get a nice dose of “Let the Sun Shine” after having enjoyed “The Age of Aquarius.” The influence of Jupiter on the Sun by way of Jupiter's rulership of Pisces always makes for auspicious times, and Jupiter is particularly strong during this entire year due to his occupation of his own sign of Sagittarius. The Sun in Pisces supports our connection to the divine by merging our own individuality and uniqueness into the collective consciousness.

Full Moon in Virgo March 21

The Moon reaches its fullness on March 21, coinciding with the Vernal Equinox. The full Moon occurs at about 7° Virgo, in the lunar mansion of Uttara Phalguni, which is a realm of prosperity, uniting of resources, and helpfulness to others. Virgo is Mercury's earth sign, and is the field of practical intellect and the movement and manipulation of earthly goods. Virgo is the realm of the healer and helper. With this full Moon we celebrate the coming of spring and our own relationship and communication with the earth and her resources. The Moon's movement into Virgo creates a grand cross between Mars in Gemini, Jupiter in Sagittarius and Sun in Pisces. These powerfully endowed planets all located in mutable signs could signal a palpable change or turn of events that moves aspects of your life forward. Roll with it!

Calculations are done using the Chitrapaksha ayanamsha and the mean node. Timings are based on Mountain Time Zone, US.
