Planetary Periods

by Kerry Shamblin

This system of astrology uses a technique of planetary periods to determine which times of the life will be marked by the lessons of certain planetary energies. The order of the planetary periods is regular; it's just that we all start the cycle at a different point, which is dependent on the position of the moon at the time of our birth. I use the vimshottari dasha, which literally means "120-year cycle." This is based on the ideal average lifespan for a human. Few people these days live to that age, but I am a firm believer in human potential, so this system works for me. Within the 120-year cycle there are nine major periods, which vary in length depending on the planet, and within each major period there are nine minor periods, which vary in length. This number nine represents the nine major planets, described above.
